On Friday, Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez changed her mind about participating  in an event commemorating former prime minster Yitzhak Rabin on the 25th anniversary of his assassination.

She made her decision after backlash from "pro-Palestinian" activists, who told her that Rabin was a monster and that Palestinians are worse off after Oslo than before.

The event is sponsored by Americans for Peace Now.

In August, there was another clear split between Peace Now and the far socialist Left, when Peace Now praised the Israel/UAE agreement and the socialists were horrified by it.

There is a common thread here.

Peace Now supports Israel living in peace and security in the Middle East. While I strongly disagree that their policies would result in such an outcome, their motivation is based on ending the conflict and leaving an Israel at peace with its neighbors.

On the other hand, the socialist Left is against Israel making peace with anyone under circumstances that leave Israel existing as a secure Jewish state.

If you look at Peace Now and see a racist, apartheid-supporting group, as the Israel-haters do, then you aren't against racism or apartheid. You are against the existence of a Jewish state and using codewords to hide your hate.

These two examples show how the socialist Left, that is making increasing inroads in the Democratic Party, has an effectively antisemitic agenda - the destruction of the Jewish state and its replacement with a Jew-hating, terror supporting Palestinian Arab majority state, which they ludicrously claim will treat Jews with equal rights. Sure. The same equal rights they have under every other Arab regime.

When Peace Now is too far to the right for you, you are not interested in peace. You are against any rights for Jews in the Middle East.

From Peace Now:

On Sunday (24/4/17), the Jerusalem Municipality deposited for public review a special plan (no. 470484) for the confiscation of 1,300 square meters in the Jewish cemetery in the Mount of Olives, adjacent to the Ras El-Amud mosque. The plan, initiated by the Jerusalem Development Authority (JDA), is meant to allow the confiscation of parcel no. 10 in bloc no. 29991 for public use, in order to allow the construction of a visitor center. The area of the plan is a highly sensitive one, located at the heart of the historical basin of Jerusalem, 300 meters from the Old City and the Temple Mount/Al-Haram A-Sharif, and next to the mosque of the Ras El-Amud neighborhood.
Dragged by settler organizations, the Israeli government is willing to go out of its way to approve this sensitive plan through a highly unusual procedure. In the current political context, to establish a visitor center next to a mosque and 300 meters away from Temple Mount/Al-Haram A-Sharif is to play with fire. A visitor center in this sensitive area could have far reaching implications on the future of the two state solution and the possibility for a compromise in Jerusalem.
Peace Now admits that the site is inside the area of the ancient cemetery. No Arab land is being taken.

It shows a picture of the area, on the southwest side of the cemetery.

In an effort to anticipate Muslim rage, Peace Now helpfully says that it is next to a mosque and 300 meters (three football fields) from the Temple Mount, which makes it "sensitive" - by this definition, along with a good chunk of Jerusalem.

The idea of Israel building a visitor center in the site of the most important Jewish graveyard in the world, not to mention a hugely important Christian site, is simply anathema to Peace Now, who believes that Jews have no rights to their ancient capital and the thousands of Jewish graves should be under Muslim control, just as they were from 1949-1967, when Jordan used gravestones for walls of latrines and road construction.

When you look at the area of the planned visitor center in Google Street view, you see exactly why it is needed - the narrow road is clogged with tourist buses.

Moreover, a visitor center in that area would help protect the graves from being desecrated by Muslims, as they are often being today. It would also provide a safer way for Jews to visit the site, which is often dangerous today.

If the unthinkable happens and Israel gives up this hugely important historic Jewish area, the visitor center would remain to be used by the new administrators, so building it doesn't affect the prospects of peace one bit anyway!

But Peace Now doesn't care about safety, or convenience, or Jewish heritage or ancient Jewish graves. It mentions how sensitive this site is to Muslims - when it is not - and doesn't bother to mention the benefits of continuing to develop Jerusalem for everyone.

In short, by Peace Now mentioning how "close" this is to the "Haram A-Sharif" it shows that the supposedly Jewish organization is trying to stir up Muslim anger at Israel, not to minimize it. It also shows how little this "human rights' organization cares about the rights of any humans who are not Arab.

This is, as Professor Richard Landes likes to say, proleptic dhimmitude.

I was struck by these two consecutive tweets by Americans for Peace Now's Lara Friedman.

The first:
Here is what the referenced Haaretz article says:
According to the developing formulation, a court will be able to order the platform to remove any content immediately, if it is a post that deals with terror or poses real danger to the security of the state, the public or an individual.
“In light of the potential harm to freedom of expression, orders to remove content will be given sparingly, in extreme cases and directed only at harmful content,” according to the statement released at that time.
In other words, the proposal is meant to save lives when the content is incitement to murder.

No less an authority that Amnesty International says "International human rights law obliges states to prohibit advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence." (Amnesty unfortunately changes its opinion radically when Israeli Jews are the targets of such incitement.)

Lara Friedman is falsely claiming that incitement to murder and terror is protected speech - and limiting it is similar to what China and Saudi Arabia and Russia do. Actually, she says that Israel is holding up those three countries as examples of what to emulate.

The article says no such thing. And international humanitarian law says the opposite of what Americans for Peace Now seems to believe.

Why does Americans for Peace Now support incitement to murder?

The second tweet:

I responded back by pointing out that the entire "linkage" argument that was popular around 2010 and has experienced a resurgence lately is based entirely on that false claim that she says doesn't exist:

Two tweets that are both 100% wrong.

You would think that Lara Friedman and her fellow "Peace Now" pals would be embarrassed at being so wrong. But these people live in a fantasy land where wishful thinking is far more real than reality.
